Road trips can be the center of all memories, with it’s classic songs such as “I Would Walk 500 Miles and Party in the USA” belting out through the open windows, receiving death stares from other drivers passing you. But when it comes to a road trip in NZ, it comes with planning and making sure you have the most important items when packing.
The usual items are food, first aid kit, music, camera, mosquito spray, sleeping gear, clothes, your driver’s license, journal, and water.
Grabbing a group of friends to come with you is fun, unless you’re sick of your friends then there’s nothing wrong with going on a roadtrip by yourself. You should also get a GPS, a real one, just in case you run out of reception or data. If you’re feeling daring, add a pocket knife to your bag, you’ll be the next Bear Grylls.
Top tip: try stay away from non-friendly animals, you wouldn’t want to be the next Leonardo Dicaprio in The Renevant. But, since NZ doesn’t have bears, you might come across a quite fiesty chiahuahua.
What you should also take with you is a spare tyre, motor oil . . . and a good plan if you suddenly sense something is wrong with your car.
Some people prefer driving with the air conditioning blasting or they prefer having the windows down. If you’re part of the 50% audience who likes to drive with the auto air conditioning unit on high, you may come across some signs that something isn’t right about your AC system.
